GF-1 LR3 is a polypeptide long-chain amino acid peptide hormone. Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF-1 Long-Arginine 3), an 83 amino acid analog of IGF-1, is a highly anabolic hormone released primarily in the liver with the stimulus of growth hormone.

IGF-1 LR3 still retains its strong pharmacological activity as an agonist of the IGF-1 receptor, but due to the mentioned modifications has very low affinity for the insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) unlike regular IGF-1 does have, and also has improved metabolic stability. As a result, it is approximately three times more potent than IGF-1, and possesses a significantly longer half-life of about 20 hours.

Clinical trials have shown, that IGF-1 LR3 binds with high-affinity to IGF-1 receptor (IGF1R), and due to its significantly reduced binding to IGF-binding proteins, is even more metabolic stable and potent than regular IGF-1 in stimulating hypertrophy and proliferation of cells. IGF-1 LR3 can be suitable treatment in catabolic states (using the peptide to induce anabolism in catabolic conditions such as muscular dystrophy). IGF-1 has a strong ability to maintain and build muscle. In addition to a direct anabolic effect on skeletal muscle, the production of more IGF-I is also capable of stimulating the proliferation and differentiation of muscle stem cells (satellite cells) – real growth of new muscle cells.
