Brief Introduction:
Neomycin is an antibiotic, and streptomycin, kanamycin, gentamicin belong to aminoglycoside antibiotics. It's produced by Streptomyces freund; Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.Neomycin was completely cross-resistant to kanamycin and partially cross-resistant to streptomycin.
See streptomycin sulfate. Pharmacokinetics is rarely absorbed by oral administration, only about 3% by intact intestinal mucosa, but a comparable amount by ulcerated or exfoliated or inflamed mucosa. Most of it passes unaltered in the stool. Neomycin has strong antibacterial effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and its minimum inhibitory concentration is generally 0.5mg/ mL.Most non-tuberculous mycobacteria are resistant to the drug. Neomycin also has antibacterial effect on many gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Enterobacter, Salmonella, Shigella, Brucella, pasteurella, etc. Neisseria meningitidis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae are also sensitive to this product.
Neomycin had poor effect on staphylococcus and other gram-positive cocci, while streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and anaerobic bacteria were resistant to neomycin.Neomycin mainly binds to the bacterial ribosome 30S subunit and inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins. Bacteria are easily resistant to neomycin after contact.Neomycin combined with other antimicrobial or antituberculous agents can reduce or delay the development of drug resistance.The product is white or quasi-white powder.
