AHK-Cu is a copper-binding peptide compound frequently cited in exploratory research involving cellular signaling activity, peptide communication pathways, and research models of copper peptides.
In the hair follicle experiment, researchers isolated individual hair follicles from human scalp tissue and treated them with varying concentrations of AHK-Cu. The results showed that follicles exposed to AHK-Cu at a concentration of 10⁻⁹ M (moles per liter) exhibited significantly greater elongation compared to the untreated control group. This effect was dose-dependent within a specific range, with the most pronounced results observed between 10⁻¹² M and 10⁻⁹ M.
Experiments involving dermal papilla cells elucidated the underlying mechanism of action. Cells treated with AHK-Cu proliferated more rapidly than untreated cells; notably, they also exhibited reduced levels of markers associated with apoptosis (programmed cell death). Based on these findings, the researchers concluded that AHK-Cu promotes hair growth through a dual mechanism: stimulating cell proliferation while simultaneously inhibiting cell death.
